A recognised action leader on climate change

01 February 2019

Sekisui House has been recognised as a global leader on the environmental front achieving a place on the CDP Climate Change A List.

CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), is an international not-for-profit organisation that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests.

Voted as the number one climate research provider by investors, they leverage investor and buyer power to motivate companies to disclose and manage their environmental impacts. Sekisui House is one of 20 Japanese companies to be included in the A-list for CDP2018.

Sekisui House early on identified the threat climate change posed to global society, leading us to declare in 2008 that we would decarbonize our operations, as part of our 2050 Vision. We were the first in the Japanese housing industry to be certified as an Eco-First Company by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, and all our operations aim to tackle the challenges of preventing global warming, preserving ecosystems, and creating a recycling-oriented society. We continue to expand our range of eco-friendly dwellings and work towards making zero-energy houses the industry standard. We also joined the RE100 Initiative in October 2017 and aim to use 100% renewable energy across all our business operations.

Our environmental actions have been recognised by leading bodies both in Japan and internationally, and our emissions reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Targets (SBT) Initiative in April 2018.

Sekisui House aims to be a leading company in ESG (Environmental, social and governance) management. We will continue to find solutions to environmental and other issues confronting society and do our part towards creating a sustainable society.
