At Sekisui House, we believe in learning from the past - as we move towards the future.

Established in 1960, we are proud to be one of Japan's most respected community developers and builders.

With over two million homes built, an array of awards for innovation, quality and sustainability, and a focus on improving our environment, we are committed to making a positive impact in the australian market.

Following are some of the key milestones in our proud history:


1960   Our company is founded in Japan.
     
1990   We open our comprehensive Housing Research and development Institute in Kyoto.
     
1993   We celebrate one million dwellings built across Japan.
     
1999   The International Council for Caring Communities presents us with an award for social responsibility. We announce our environmental future plan.
     
2001   We introduce our ‘Five trees’ landscape design philosophy to promote the conservation of biodiversity.

All six Sekisui House centres for manufacturing and quality control are certified under the ISO14001 environmental standard, demanding rigorous assessment and control of our business’ impact on the environment.
     
2002   All our six centres for manufacturing and quality control achieve zero-emission status in Japan.
     
2003   We make next-generation energy-saving features standard for all newly built detached homes in Japan.
     
2005   We announce our declaration of sustainability, outlining our commitment and investment into sustainability across the breadth of our operations.
     
2006   We're presented an award for our contribution to reducing global warming by the Japanese Minister of Environment.
     
2007   We achieve zero-emission status at our home re-construction sites in Japan.
     
2008   We collaborate in the construction of a 'Zero Emission House' for the G8 World summit.

We're certified by the Japanese Environment Ministry as the housing and construction industry's premier 'Eco First Company'.

We also introduce our Carbon Neutral Housing in Japan.
     
2009   Sekisui House expands into Australia.

We acquire our first development sites in Australia.

We launch our 'Green First' Housing in Japan and we expand into Russia.
     
2010   We celebrate our 50 year anniversary.

Sekisui House Australia acquires AVJennings Contract Homes.

Sekisui House Australia signs a business alliance agreement with Lend Lease.

We open our first Australian Sekisui House centre for manufacturing and quality control in Ingleburn, NSW.

We celebrate two million dwellings built across our operations in Japan.

We expand into China and the USA.
     
2011   We launch the 'Aurora collection' - our first collection of contract home designs developed in collaboration with Japanese and local designers.

We also launch our 'Rethink Green' sustainability initiative in Australia.
     
2012   We open The Hermitage in NSW, the first Sekisui House masterplanned community in Australia.

Our first Exhibition Homes are opened at Gledswood Hills, NSW, demonstrating Sekisui House home building philosophies and the advanced technologies used in Japan and being developed for Australia.
