The Sydney suburb of Melrose Park will get its first shopping village including a supermarket after receiving City of Parramatta Council development approval.

The final stage of the popular Melrose Park project, known as Melrose Park Village by Sekisui House, will include a 1,000 square metre retail village with a supermarket, liquor shop and pharmacy. The stage will also include six buildings with 411 apartments which overlook a 4,000 square-metre private park. Sekisui House Project Director Simons Adams said the retail village would be a great addition for not only people moving in but also the local community. ‘’Our research shows that there is strong demand for retail in the area, with locals currently having to travel to shop,’’ Mr Adams said. “For residents moving into Melrose Park, it will add a higher level of convenience and for existing residents a new retail option.’’

The Melrose Park project has bucked the property trend with more than 600 apartments sold over the first three stages. The first stage known as One Melrose at the corner of Wharf Road and Victoria Road is complete, with residents currently moving into their new homes. The second stage, known as The Residences, has topped out and the internal fit-out is well-underway, while work has recently started on Stage 3 – Pulse & Pavilion.

Boston Sales and Marketing Director Rhys Morgan, who is selling Melrose Park Village on behalf of Sekisui House, said there was strong interest in the latest stage. “Melrose Park Village is the landmark stage, with its retail component and private park,’’ Mr Morgan said. “The convenience of retail at your door-step is a drawcard for both owner-occupiers and investors. “There is renewed strength in the market with low interest rates and government grants proving attractive, particularly for first home buyers.’’

Mr Morgan said buyer feedback to date included:

• Opportunity to buy early into Sydney’s biggest urban renewal project
• Proven strong sales results in Stages 1 to 3
• A Developer with a proven, long-term track record in delivering high-quality developments
• Award-winning design by architects AJ+C
• Affordably priced apartments
• A location benefiting from significant infrastructure investment.

Melrose Park is part of a much bigger urban renewal which includes a further 5000 apartments, parklands, retailing and community facilities. Melrose Park Village will go on sale early next year, with construction due to start later in the year.
