Cycleway Closure Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we closing the cycleway?
The cycleway will be temporarily closed to facilitate the construction of a brand-new foreshore park being developed at Sanctuary Wentworth Point by Sekisui House. The brand-new foreshore park will enhance the local community's recreational and green spaces, providing a more enjoyable environment for residents and visitors.

For how long will the cycleway be closed?
The duration of the cycleway closure is contingent upon the construction timeline of the foreshore park, and will be closed for a minimum of 11 months. The anticipated opening date of the new park is late 2024. Regular progress updates can be found on https://www.sekisuihouse.com.au/sanctuary/community-updates/

Is there an alternative route to access the cycleway along the foreshore?
To access Newington and Wentworth Point, please use the Louise Sauvage Pathway at the back of the Sanctuary site. This pathway will allow you to rejoin the cycleway to head into Newington as well as provide access to Hill Road, Wentworth Point.

The distance of the detour route from each of the closure points is approximately 1000m.

Please find the detour map below.

What are the opening and closing hours of the Parklands?
Dawn to Dusk. Gates into the Parklands are closed outside of these times.

Why can’t temporary access be maintained during construction?
The best approach for the community would be to expedite delivery of the foreshore park and ensure public open spaces is made available as soon as reasonable possible.

Temporary access measures would not only delay progress of works on-site but also pose serious risk to public health and safety.
