Sekisui House takes out RobecoSAM Sustainability Awards

On January 19, 2017, Sekisui House, Ltd. (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and COO: Toshinori Abe) was selected for the Gold Class in the Homebuilding category of the 2017 RobecoSAM Sustainability Awards.

Headquartered in Switzerland, RobecoSAM AG is a world-class assessor of socially responsible investment (SRI). It provides investors with information on corporate sustainability. This is the second year in a row that Sekisui House has received the highest honor in the RobecoSAM corporate sustainability assessment.

In RobecoSAM’s assessment, over 3,400 listed global companies in 60 industries are evaluated for their economic, environmental, and social practices. The top-scoring companies are selected for the Gold Class. This year, Gold Class ratings were given to 77 companies, three of which were from Japan.


In September 2016, Sekisui House was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World Index. This is a global index for sustainability investment that recognizes companies for their financial, environmental, and social performance.

ESG investments focus on a company’s financial performance as well as its non-financial performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas. Such investing is becoming increasingly important today.

The Sekisui House Group has been certified as an Eco-First Company under the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s program for identifying companies that lead their respective industries in environmental initiatives. The Sekisui House Group is committed to pursuing net-zero-energy housing (ZEH) through its Green First environmentally friendly housing specifications. These specifications are used for Sekisui House’s detached houses, Sha Maison rental housing, Grande Maison condominiums, and remodeling and renovation
business.

At the same time, Sekisui House continues to collaborate with all of its stakeholders to pursue CSR activities that create new value in response to contemporary social needs. By doing so, Sekisui House strives to address a variety of social issues and help build a sustainable society.
